4 Years Of KTG:

I began sketching for this dream at the age of 3 years, I began to study this dream at the age of 12.

I began to hone my talents as an artist at 15. From the age of 17 I have been in the Fashion Industry

completing 3 successful internships by the age of 20 with Poleci Design Corp in Los Angeles, CA

and The Crashious Roadside Room in Long Beach, CA.

I learned the Fashion business by managing a privately owned boutique for 3 years.

I began Independently designing my own collection 10 November 2007 to the present.

Today, 28 November 2011 I am striving more and more to be the dream I have dreamed, to soar.

Thank you so much to all of the lovely and beautiful people in my life who continue to support this dream.

At The Hollywood Bowl 22 October 2011

I am taking a step aside from the usual KTG Fashion posts to highlight a true Dancehall Queen.

Robyn.

I attended her concert performance this year at The Hollywood Bowl Saturday Night 22 October 2011

where she gave a performance that induced an out of experience.

She opened with "We dance to the beat", an controversial hit, that highlights many of the issues we as a global

community are facing today. Delivering lines like "we dance to the beat of false math and unrecognized genius"

meant to ignite our inner flames as citizens of the world to challenge and change; not to continue to accept.
The three part album featured many singles with the same nature like "Dont Fucking Tell Me What To Do"

The entire performance was stellar, she and her incredible band gave us all they had.

The Hollywood Bowl performance was in fact their last performance from the 3 Part Album Body Talk!

Every musician was in tune including Robyn's crystal clear voice. Her combo with Röyksopp on their track

"The Girl and The Robot" transported us into outer space, with Svein Berge dressed as "The" robot. Pure

magic.

Robyn's dance moves were sharp with funk appeal.

To plainly state: Robyn is the truth! She didn't need parlor tricks, nor did she need extravagant side show antics.

The Robyn show did not have any crazy special effects, there weren't a thousand dancers on stage either.

The Hollywood Bowl was set with impeccable lighting, flawless lighting crowned with the brilliance of Robyn.

Her fashion was not over the top, she remained understated, moderately minimal.

However, in no way was she without style. She had three costume changes:

She opened wearing a short-cut sharply tailored mid-riffed white jacket paired with what appeared to be

Versace printed leggings. The leggings had a sheen to them, reminiscent of a seal fresh from a dip in the ocean.

Finally, her shoes sent me back in time to the mid-late night nineties club kid phenomenon. She wore platform boots.

Which made me want search for my old pairs on Ebay! The platform had a white sole with a medium-brown suede vamp.

Her next change kept in with the simplicity if the first look, except the leggings where hues of blue, with a thick white elastic waste band connecting in the front with the illusion of a belt designed by Calvin Klein.

Her jacket for the second change was a throwback to the "amateur sports team" jackets. It was a fantastic over-sized iridescent vinyl jacket.

Her last change was into another look that sent me back in time; this time to the early nineties during the rap inspired Cross Colours fashions.

Robyns hat was soft leather, baseball cap-shaped, with splatters of red paint around the sides. Her dress was

a simple block cut in black, however the details of this dress were the most interesting. Her breasts were highlighted with two neon green KOOSH BALLS! The mid front and mid back were also decorated with KOOSH BALLS.

Simplicity always wins.

She returned with not one, but two encores completing the night with the song that she warmed our hearts with

from the very start; "Show me love".

The concert was something that had to be experienced, live and in person. A true Goddess, Performer

and Angel of Light.

DIY City Mag: I love your style and the way you use no zippers or buttons in your work. I guess that would be my first question to you. Could you explain why you have chosen this method and does this type method have a name?

Kristin: I have found a way to utilize draping from the ancient world, and emphasizing my own innovative creativity to employ a fully functioning garment. I don’t have a name just yet, I just found another way to make the clothes stay on and at the same time they still fit! Not only do they stay on and fit but most of the garments can fit a nice range of sizes, I have fit sizes 0 small to a 10 large in the same garment. Just let me add that I have employed this method using many types of fabric, stretch and non-stretch.

DIY City Mag: Your work seems to push the edge of sexy - what inspires this style?

Kristin: Inspiration has many faces, sexy is an interesting word for me, being the Tom-boy that I am I found another avenue definition and interpretation for sexy. Everything I do and everything that I am is a process of function, method and mechanism. Leonardo Di Vinci said, “Give me the measure of all things, and I will tell you the nature of the soul.” The measure of my own sexuality is represented through form blended with reality, sexy to me is the true being of each woman. I have also created, styled and directed fashion shows, when I was going through the planning stages and rehearsals with models I always wanted to find out their true personality, from there I advised them to pull from that. I am not of fan of forced realities, so what is truly from within is superior in sexy me, not any preconceived notion. With my designs I pull from within, my emotions experiences, desires, dreams, challenges and disappointments, for it is these things that make me, me. These things come through my eyes and are transfused from my heart and soul into my designs. We women are goddesses of many states of mind and emotion, some sultry, some fierce fused with masculinity some introverted and meek, while others are roaring lions with thunder. Sexy, simply stated is what is truly within. If I am seen as pushing the edge, cool, just know that in reality I am pulling from what already exists.

DIY City Mag: How long have you been designing, do you have any formal training?

Kristin: Altogether I had three amazing learning planes to grow on, interning for Poleci Design Corp in the summer of 2003/Fall of 2004, Apprentice/Assistant to Crashious Crowley for the Roadside Room, and solely managed a boutique for 2 1/2 years for Sonia Moncayo owner of L'Exotique Appeal Boutique. It was these that instilled in me the most formal training, that of which was hands on and real.

Kristin: I classify inspirational as being something you know that you are going to refer back to many times over, so from words to photos I use these to fill me up and keep me going, like oxygen to breathing.

DIY City Mag: Can you tell us a little bit about when you first discovered design or fashion and also who is your fashion icon?

Kristin: "My ultimate fashion icon is the late and great Gabrielle Coco Chanel. I have studied many different biographies about Coco, I collect pictures of her and I absolutely love her quotes. I am most impressed with her life story as well as struggle, overall it is her strength in daring to challenge and defy conventional thinking that inspires me most. She was expressive and fearless. I dare to be different and I am doing my best to remain as honest as possible even if it causes others discomfort. For the reason, that like Coco Chanel I too have unconventional ideas and thoughts that some may not understand but that does not mean I will ever stop striving for originality. No instead it motivates me more. Besides Coco Chanel, my idols are my mother Sylvia Morgan, my late grandmother La Leta Fields Morgan, Nicholas Ghesquiere for Balenciaga, Zac Posen, Hussein Chalayan, Liya Kebede and Naomi Campbell because she’s a true goddess." by

Have you always thought of being a model?
Anisa- Rianna D:
No, I used to have low self esteem and would have never imagined I would model.

* KTG:
How did you get into modeling?
ARD
A photographer named J.P. wright from my college told me that I would be a wonderful model and shot a few pictures of me after that friends show there friend and that's how I got started.

* KTG:
What do you like most about this profession?
ARD
I like taking on different persona's, becoming a completely character each time I shoot...

* KTG:
What are you currently doing in modeling? Is modeling what you imagined, or more than you imagined?
ARD
It's more than I imaged it would be.... I've learned its not as easy as it looks!

* KTG:
What are your long term goals regarding being a model?
ARD:
I hope that I'll get to travel all around the world.

Plumber's Thong
Was there a natural disaster? Was there an urgent emergency, has tragedy struck? I beg of you, what is the reason you cannot dress yourself properly? The sole purpose for all of these questions is to find out why women don’t fix the draft when their “undies” are showing.

Specifically, thong underwear.

There is an obvious draft when your pants are too low revealing the top of your bum.
There is an even more obvious draft when your thong is exposed. This may come across as taboo or a touchy subject, however it begs reckoning. Decades ago women applied layers of detail to their outer wear. In no way shape or form would they be caught in public with their under garments hanging out for the world to see! Make no mistake, the freedom to dress how you please must be respected.
Subsequently, self respect must also be added to the equation.Plumber's Thong

We have come a long way as womankind, by way of protesting, taking grand stands to exercise our rights to be here and contribute to society. These movements depicted courage, called upon women to pull from within and reclaim her place. “I am woman, hear me roar!” Although, when one chooses to leave her thong out, the only roar heard is the gratification given to those who wish to degrade women. In some form or fashion, women who allow their thongs to show in public may feel as though this deems them worthy and attractive to their prospective “viewers.”

On the contrary, this is unsophisticated attention.

Furthermore, perusing the streets with your thongs high above the waistline of your jeans, jogging pants, skirts, shorts and whatever else is sloppy, careless. Ultimately it is a disgrace to your Foremothers who fought for your rights to exercise your self respect. Assemble your undies before leaving home, take a one, two, three glance in the mirror.
Wear your outer garments over your unders.
Walk proud.

In an attempt to maintain some semblance of sanity I have comprised an honest observation of an epidemic, that has in fact been plaguing Fashion for far too long.

An epidemic categorized as, “Year-Round Shorts Wearers”. If this is you, you may want to take a seat.

The “Year-Round Shorts Wearers” show no regard for Fashion, no love for the changing of the seasons. In doing so they justify their lack of awareness by adding seasonal layers to the shorts! For example, adding tights to shorts while donning a scarf and a long sleeve sweater. Another example would be adding loafers, dress socks, gloves, or a parka. All to accommodate the shorts for the seasons, honestly?!
Apparently, these Fashion Criminals did not retain the meaning of “Green Eggs and Ham“! A change is desired. Oh, to return to the days of pride in one’s appearance, when men and women wouldn’t dare leave the house dressed as though they were still “in the house”. Mankind has moved from a time where legendary Fashion icons were born, to a time where “Year-Round Shorts Wearers” stalk the Earth. There is a time and place for everything, why not dress for the occasion!

Today's Fix:
The "Hobo-hemian" trend, stemming from the depression of the "recession" has had a negative effect on the self esteem of Fashion. As a result, the people have slipped into a mental-fashion-remission. I am taking a stand to pull you out! Try adding a few classic-chic items to revive your wardrobe by osmosis reviving your spirit.

Instead of appearing down trodden...

Try trading those Hobo-like layers for some simplicity...

The Story of KTG

KTG is a Fashion Artist with a background in Fine Arts, her life experiences and artistic endeavors are vast as well as her accomplishments…

From the age of three, she began to express her love for fashion by selecting her own wardrobe. At age five she communicated her fashion sense through colorful detailed sketches which she then made into “Fashion Books”. It was her mother who realized her passion and watched her as she knew what lit her daughter’s heart. She noticed the detail and emphasis she put into her shapes and color selection. KTG would create a story with her sketches, adding color, manipulating the shapes arranging the figures from start to finish in a well composed sequence. Her understanding of composition was quite thorough for a child of five years.

KTG was born Kristin Michelle Brady, 26 July 1985 in the City of Orange, California. Six months after her birth, her mother uprooted her and her two older brothers leaving their father who would thereafter, become estranged. Her mother struggled and worked as hard two parents attempting to fill the gap of the absence of a second parent; she worked as a nurse and attended college simultaneously. In between mothering, work, and school she found time be a successful Playwright, Director, and Producer of her own work. It was centered around public awareness as well as service. It was this example of strength and brilliance that engrained an innate knowledge in KTG that she could do anything she put her mind to.

In 1993, a traumatic situation caused her family to move around several times; life seemed a bit unstable, though they did survive and manage with many of their struggles. That summer the family uprooted once more to Tennessee(her mother‘s place of birth) for a summer, with an unexpected extended stay totaling four years.

It was in these four years that she got to know and spend a great amount of time with her beloved late Grandmother. Possessing many of the same qualities, KTG enjoyed cherished and treasured all of the time she spent with her Grandmother. KTG studied her Grandmother quite a bit and ultimately admired her sense of classic style, she was a collector of antiques and this was another love she developed. KTG’s knowledge was cultivated in Classic Cinema, antique fibers, and vintage nostalgia.

In the summer of 1997, KTG’s mother decided it was time to return to California. That summer at the age of 12, KTG took it upon herself to begin her education in the evolutionary decades of fashion. She would check out books from the public library, researching the greats. Studying the life of Gabrielle Coco Chanel, as well as examining the stylistic distinctions of Gianni Versace, Christian Dior, and Yoji Yamamoto. Paying close attention to the legendary textiles of Emilio Pucci. His work reminded her of her sketches and way of using pattern blended with color.

As time passed she would continue her personal studies of fashion throughout the decades always researching always arranging colors in her head, visualizing them as shapes and forms. Not to mention staying current with a subscription to both Elle and Vogue magazine at the age of 13. Trips to the bookstore were a necessity. It was there that she would read about the makeup genius of the late Kevin Aucoin, as well as read up on classic film starlet’s. By surrounding herself with these outlets of knowledge she was in fact, thoroughly cultivating her craft. Understanding the skeleton of the history of fashion, the anatomy and physiology.

KTG began her Freshman year at Gahr High School in Cerritos, California in 1999. That year she interviewed for the schools art program, ATA( Arts Technology Academy).
ATA is where she gained all of her Fine Arts roots; thanks to her instructors/program directors. ATA began sophomore year and by senior year the students had to develop a focus.

The ATA instructors were themselves working artists. They instilled high professional skills into their curriculum, thus preparing their students for the professional art world while still in high school. They studied everything from life drawing, pointillism, painting to Macromedia Flash, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, to knowing how to arrange a magazine. All of the ATA students were immersed in the knowledge of renowned artists such as Georgia O’Keefe, Kandinsky, Van Gogh, Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, Caravaggio and one of her strongest influences Salvador Dali.

With all of this artistic knowledge under her belt KTG was well equipped for her senior focus of Fashion Design. The ATA History instructor arranged a field trip for the Fashion focus students; it was a trip to the Fashion Design company Poleci. The instructor knew one of the two sisters who owned the company; their daughters played on the same soccer team. About two weeks before, Poleci sent over a challenge! They were to design a simple T-Top, they were given the swatches to choose from and the winning sketch would actually get to have their top made! The Fashion focus students got to tour the entire corporate office, from the cutting room floor to the kitchen.
The tour ended in the kitchen where the two sisters introduced themselves explaining the history of Poleci and from there they announced the winner of the contest. KTG’s top was chosen!

From the kitchen they headed to the Cal-Mart(California Marketplace) to see the showroom and perform a real merchandiser/buyer transaction. KTG was exempt from the exercise of course and would instead observe.

The day of high school graduation, that same instructor who arranged the field trip informed KTG that she was chosen to intern for Poleci immediately that summer. She worked in the design room with the Top Designers, and Assistants. It was at Poleci that KTG gained great knowledge in fabrics(texture and touch), trend setting as well as forecasting. She would cut swatches, make trips to the cutting room to request fabrics, talk with pattern makers and observe the whole rhythm of the company as they were pressured for deadlines. Collectively her introduction to the business was an amazing stride seeing as though many College level design students don’t intern until senior year or after graduation.

During her third semester of college at 19, KTG would return to Poleci for an entire semester. From there she began working for a women’s boutique which she then began managing the following summer. Later she would leave the boutique to work as an apprentice designer for The Crashious Roadside Room. At the Roadside Room, all of the garments were numbered limited editions. She gained a value and appreciation for this concept and would later implement the same value into her own work. Crash(Jeremy Crowley), her overseer and the owner of the company taught her great skills; showing her how to truly be inventive, fearless as well as innovate her own style.

When her time was up at the Roadside Room she returned to the boutique. Collectively she directed 3 successful fashion shows for the boutique. Managing the boutique, KTG learned the business end of Fashion. Inventory, sales, marketing, and the importance of product placement. It was at the boutique that she realized a need for innovation regarding sizing vs. fit vs. buyer. Noticing that some of the major deterrents in a garments successfully fitting. The summer of 2007 the boutique’s downtown location would close and thus put KTG out of a job. She had begun her sophomore studies at the Academy of Arts University that Spring.

That Fall, while studying at the Academy KTG received an unsavory critique that in no way seemed constructive nor did it seem supportive of innovative ideals. After much meditation she would abandon her studies at the Academy of Arts University. That following week she received an email about a Charity Fashion Expose. KTG entered and would begin her life’s work as a Fashion Artist. This show was the impetus for creating her first collection of Fine Art Fashion. Fashion that does not utilize any methods of Western tailoring. No zippers, buttons, or hook and eye.

Her work forms to fit each body individually. Many of her garments can fit a broad range of sizes and body types. Reflecting on the memories of the boutique days where garment fittings were less celebratory and more of a disappointment. KTG’s garments were quite the opposite!
The very first fitting she held was quite frightening for her, here she was about reveal her soul to these “strangers” and would rely on their opinion as to the esteem of her work. Thankfully their reviews were astounding! The models fell in love with her work, and wore her garments with high esteem down the runway that November.

Early April, 2008 KTG joined the indie network Etsy.com. She was contacted by the sisters Deb e and Wendy from DIY City Mag for an in depth interview. They were especially fascinated with her technique of garment construction, not using Western fastening methods. She was quoted as “pushing the edge of sexy” and her response was, “Sexy to me is the true being of each woman,” adding, “If I am seen as pushing the edge, cool, just know that in reality I am pulling from what already exists”-KTG

In August KTG, with the help of celebrated Photographer Barbara Service and noted Fashion Stylist Sasha Gold, held her first solo fashion show. It was a success, launching Collection 2.
From there she has lent her talents toward many fashion forward movements. Endeavoring into Fashion styling as well as Art Direction; including designing a custom gown for talented musician Justine Tauriainen, for her Technical Emmy nomination. With these strides KTG is moving forward to expanding globally with hopes to shed light on Fine Art Fashion.

When questioned about the meaning of her initials, KTG; she replied, “Oh, they stand for Kristin The Great.”
